Hathor & Activism

So I’m a newly converted Hathor the Cowgoddess fan. I just read her blog post entitled “Now They’ve Gone and Done It” and I am appalled.

Basically this wonderful government of ours is, once again, sticking their nose into our rights as women and mothers. Dictating not only how we birth but whether we can breastfeed or whether or not to take their medications.

Am I saying a mom shouldn’t treat her sick little ones? Absolutely not. But it is her choice as to whether a treatment thrush is nystatin or acidophilus or gentian violet or yogurt.

As for the state having issues with homebirthing, all I can say is how I’m forever baffled at the idea that the government says a woman has a right to do what she will with her own body (i.e. kill an unborn child) yet we cannot, in some states, decide where we would like to give birth to that child. We can decide to when, where and how to end a child's life but not when, where and how that child’s life should begin??
