When dealing with issues such as ADHD or other learning disabilities, there tends to be controversy. Older people will say that they don't believe in all that mumbo jumbo, "We never had all these excuses when I was coming up". There are those who believe it's being over-diagnosed, as well.
So what is it? Are these learning disabilities a bunch of imaginary diagnoses? Do they really exist? If they do, then why weren't we hearing about it 40 years ago?
Yes, they do exist. Are there people over-diagnosing? Probably. After all, they're a money-maker for doctors and a great way to sedate children so that teachers and parents no longer have to deal with their behavior. (Now before a parent jumps down my throat, let me clarify that I'm not saying the parent's goal is to sedate their child so that they can ignore them. I'm simply saying that's why the pharmaceutical companies have decided to use the particular drugs on children that they do.)
The reason we may not have heard about it 40 or 50 years ago is firstly because ADHD was called something else. In the beginning it was "mild brain dysfunction" for instance. The term, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which is certainly more appropriate, didn't come until the 70's. Secondly, there have been many changes over the years which contribute to a higher rate of ADD/ADHD.
For instance, we use more chemicals, in our foods now than we did 50 years ago. Our foods are highly processed, colored and flavored with artificial ingredients, and loaded with preservatives. All of these have been proven to contribute to behavioral and learning problems. Remove these and many cases of ADHD vanish. And of course, there are antibiotics (both in foods and being prescribed to us) the overuse of which can lead to systemic candidiasis and cause ADHD symptoms in a person who otherwise has no disorders.
Another big reason--we have more vaccines than ever. The results of vaccines are that have more illnesses. We have more mental and behavioral disorders than ever. And, of course, autism appeared after the mandating of vaccines in the 1930's and is escalating at a mindboggling rate. The more vaccines they create, the worse things get.
Here is a great article that arrived in my email today. It really says a lot. But first, B.L. Fisher, from the National Vaccine Information Center comments on the article:
Slowly but surely, the epidemic of chronic disease and disability affecting millions of learning disabled, hyperactive, autistic, developmentally delayed children is beginning to be acknowledged by the American medical community. The data collected in the 2003 National Survey of Children's Health is just the tip of the iceberg, as pediatrician researchers at University of Virginia seem to suggest.
At risk are not just the individual children suffering from learning and behavior disorders with biological causes, but their families and communities. The chronic disease and disability epidemic is having profound and catastrophic effects on American society and these effects will only worsen economically and socially in the future.
Public health officials, who continue to promote one-size-fits all vaccination policies which do not take into account genetic and other biological differences between our children, are responsible for what has happened. By insisting that all children use 48 doses of 14 vaccines by age six, they have set up the genetically vulnerable for chronic inflammation leading to neuroimmune dysfunction.
The chronic disease and disability epidemic will not go away until those operating the mass vaccination system take an honest look at what they have done and act to repair the damage and prevent further damage from occurring.
